Week 9 July 6

Learning to me this week is to become aware of something by information or by observation. With the learning theory this week, learning is all about reality. It makes me think about how so many people think that as individuals we are either book smart or common sense smart, but that hardly you ever see people that are both.
As teachers/trainers we need to make sure to incorporated both so that are learners can take the information we help them acquire and use it in their lives.

  1. That is the trick isn't it, incorportating both book and common sense smarts into our lessons. Usually teachers teach how they learn best. As teachers we need to make sure that we are applying what we know about different learning syles and theories. But I also think that we, as teachers, need to expand ourselves, strive to be both book and common sense smart so we can better teach our students.

  3. Camille,
I think the reason why so many students pursue book smart is that schools lay much importance on scores. We should not judge a student's learning only by his or her scores, as knowledge is meaningful in real life, so we should encourage our students applying what they learned in reality. Observation and information are effective ways, besides, we could reinforce what students learned by authentic activities.

  4. I loved what Jennifer said. Most teachers teach how they learned. But, it's not about us, it's about them, the students. The more ways we can approach learning, the better it will be for our students. So to use your phrase Camille, that learning is done through observation, make sure the observations gives the learners more than one way to approach a particular issue or subject.
